Can You Make Money as a Sleep Consultant?
If you’re thinking about becoming a baby sleep consultant, one of the most important questions you might have is, “Really… Can you make money as a sleep consultant?” It’s a valid concern! Switching careers or starting something new can feel daunting, especially if you’re not sure what your bank account will look like after the leap.
The good news? The answer is a resounding yes! Becoming a baby sleep consultant not only allows you to pursue a meaningful, flexible career, but it also can be so profitable, whether you’re going full-time or keeping it as a side hustle. This is a high-demand service – and it’s only becoming more and more common for parents to reach out for help.
So, let’s break down exactly how sleep consultants make money, the ways you can increase your income as a baby sleep consultant, and how you can set yourself up for financial success.
1. The Demand for Sleep Consultants is Growing
The first key to understanding why sleep consultants can earn a good income is recognizing the high demand for their services. If you’ve ever had a sleepless baby, or spoken to parents going through this phase, you know how exhausting it can be. Lack of sleep doesn’t just affect the baby – it impacts the entire family’s well-being.
Nowadays, parents are becoming more aware of the importance of healthy sleep for their babies and themselves – and many are willing to invest in professional help to solve sleep issues. Sleep is no longer seen as a luxury – it’s essential, and parents are actively seeking experts to guide them through sleep challenges.
Why the Demand is High:
- Sleep deprivation affects physical and mental health. Families are often at their breaking point when they seek help, which makes the value of your service undeniable. More and more, people are starting to take their health seriously (as they should!), and are turning to the experts to help them.
- Information overload. There’s a lot of conflicting advice out there about baby sleep. And there is no way for parents to know what baby sleep consultants know without taking a multi-week program for themselves. Parents want expert guidance tailored to their specific situation.
- Word-of-mouth referrals. Once a family has success with a sleep consultant, they are likely to recommend the service to friends and family, driving even more demand. I can’t tell you how many clients I’ve picked up personally just through word-of-mouth.
2. How Much Money Can You Make as a Sleep Consultant?
Alright – let’s actually talk about income. As a sleep consultant, how much you earn depends on the usual factors, such as your location, the services you offer, and how much time you dedicate to your business. Let’s break it down.
Service Pricing
Sleep consultants typically offer various service packages based on the level of support needed. For example, you might offer an initial consultation, personalized sleep plans, and ongoing support via phone, email, or even in-home visits.
Here’s a general idea of the rates you can charge:
- Virtual Email Consultations: $350-$450 per 7-day session ( You can increase this if you want to add more time)
- Virtual Phone, Text, or Zoom Consultation: $500-$800 per 7-day session
- In-home Consultations: $800-$1,500 (but IPSP-certified consultants typically make $4,000 for in-home consultations and we show you exactly how!)
- Ongoing email or phone support packages: $200-$500
How Many Clients Do You Need?
One of the biggest benefits of this career is that you don’t need dozens of clients to make a decent income. If you only did 10 virtual consultations a month, you’ll be earning at least $4,000 a month.
(P.S. That’s only about 15-20 hours a week!)
And if you decide to work full time with a combination of virtual and in-home consultations, you can make over $10,000 a month.
Our latest income survey reveals that IPSP graduates are earning between $60,000 and $160,000 annually, right in line with ZipRecruiter’s average of $86,000. Once you get your business established and set up a referral system, you can easily earn six figures each year consulting full time.
3. Flexible Income Streams
One of the things I love most about being a baby sleep consultant is the flexibility in how you can earn money. The thing is, you don’t just have to do one-on-one consultations. As you grow your knowledge and confidence, you can diversify your services and create multiple income streams.
Extra Income Streams (on top of 1:1)…
- Online Courses or Webinars: Create educational resources for parents who prefer to learn on their own time. Online courses can be sold to an unlimited number of clients, so you have a completely scalable income source.
- Group Workshops: Hosting group workshops, either in person or online, allows you to help several families at once and charge a group rate.
- Partnerships with Pediatricians or Other Experts: Building partnerships with other professionals can help you reach more clients and establish your authority as a sleep consultant. Plus it creates an amazing referral system!
- Writing a Blog or Book: Sharing your knowledge in a book or through a blog can increase your visibility and bring in passive income through book sales, affiliate marketing, or sponsored content.
- Collaborate with Baby Brands: This is not only fun but also a fantastic way to earn extra income! It’s one of my favorite ways to spend my downtime between clients.
The possibilities are really endless in this career, and the more creative you get with your services, the more opportunities you’ll find to grow your business – and your income.
4. Investing in the Right Training
If you want to make money as a sleep consultant, you need to be credible. Parents will be trusting you with their baby’s health and well-being, so having the proper training and certification is key. Without the right knowledge, your business is set up to fail.
When you’re properly trained, not only will you feel confident in your ability to solve sleep issues, but you’ll also have the credentials to market yourself as an expert in the field.
