How Long Does It Take to Get a Sleep Consultant Certification?
If you’re considering a career as a sleep consultant, one of the first questions you might ask is, how long does it take to get a sleep consultant certification?
Does it take a full 4-year degree?
An online quiz?
What does that actual process look like to get your baby sleep consultant certification?
These are questions I get just about everyday at the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting, because hundreds of students come in our (virtual!) doors each year to become certified.
So, let’s jump into the process of becoming a sleep consultant, how long the process takes, and if you can balance getting your certification while working a full time job.
The Short Answer: How Long Does It ACTUALLY Take to Get Certified?
Most of our IPSP students complete the Sleep Consultant Certification within 4 to 6 weeks. But, the timeline that you complete your course depends on all sorts of different factors, like your learning pace, your current work schedule, and your general availability. But even if you work a full time job, or have kids at home, our program is fully designed with flexibility in mind, which means you can study at your own pace.
When I designed the course work at IPSP, I specifically had this timeline question in mind.
Because, when I personally took the dive into sleep consulting, I was a mom juggling work as a nurse and my little ones at home. In fact, my own child had sleep issues, so I was running on only a few hours of sleep when I decided to make this huge career change.
So, I get it. Everybody has ‘all the things’ to deal with, and your certification shouldn’t be stressing you out. While the process is rigorous (it has to be in order to make you the best consultant you can be), you can complete the course on YOUR terms. That’s the beauty of the IPSP program – it accommodates the busy schedules of women, especially those balancing work and family life.
Course Structure and Content: What to Expect
Our certification program is divided into modules and each one focuses on different aspects of sleep consulting. From understanding infant sleep patterns to addressing sleep troubles, the curriculum is thorough and well-rounded.
So the question,’how long does it take to get a sleep consultant certification’, all depends on how quickly you can complete these modules. For example, if you can dedicate a few hours each day, you might finish sooner. However, if life is a little crazy, you can spread it out over a longer period.
On average, most IPSP students who dedicate 15-20 hours a week complete the course in about two months. If you can commit more time, you’ll finish even sooner. For those with busy schedules, feel free to take as much time as you need. Our course is designed with flexibility as a top priority to accommodate your lifestyle.
Why Does a Sleep Consultant Certification Matter?
Becoming a certified sleep consultant is more than just earning a credential – it’s about acquiring the skills and confidence to make a real impact. Our course equips you with practical tools and techniques, but it also instills a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological aspects of sleep issues. Getting certified isn’t just a box to check off, it will be the foundation of your career. So getting into a great program and taking the time you need to complete the process is essential. At IPSP, our holistic approach is what sets our graduates apart and makes our program so unique. When potential clients see that you are certified from IPSP, it builds trust and credibility, making them more likely to seek your services.
