Marketing Mistakes to Avoid as a Pediatric Sleep Consultant

Stop Making These Marketing Mistakes as a Pediatric Sleep Consultant

Becoming a sleep consultant is more than learning how to help clients get the sleep they so desperately need. There’s also plenty of business savvy that goes along with the title. You are in the driver’s seat of your pediatric sleep consulting business, and you need to draw clients in and that means putting on your marketing hat. While there are plenty of things you’re going to want to do, there are also marketing mistakes to avoid as a pediatric sleep consultant.

How are people going to hear about your business?

How are you going to stand out among all of the other sleep consultants out there?

What is going to make people want to work with you?

These are all questions that you need to address in your marketing plan. But, in the process, there are mistakes just waiting to happen. Your job is to avoid them as much as possible so that you can be the superstar you were born to be.

5 Marketing Mistakes to Avoid as a Pediatric Sleep Consultant

If you want to become a marketing maven of your new pediatric sleep consultant business, steer clear of these blunders.

Not Taking Advantage of the Free Stuff

If it’s free, it’s for me. Right? Exactly! So be sure to take full advantage of all the free marketing tools out there. Social media should become your bestie right away because there are so many opportunities to market your business for free and network with people who can also do some marketing for you, also for FREE!

Establishing an online presence through Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms should be your top priority. Here you can not only let people know you exist but also share valuable information. As people get to know what you’re doing and that you bring something important to the table, you’ll begin to earn their trust. This trust leads to clients. So, if you’re not taking advantage of all this free marketing, do you see how your business can flop before it even takes off?

When you become a certified pediatric sleep consult through the Institute of Pediatric Sleep & Parenting, I provide this type of info so you have a direction to head as you learn to market your new business.

You Didn’t Set Up a Website

When you’re searching for a business and can’t find a website, how are you going to find out what the business is all about and if they’re the real deal? You’re not. So if people can’t learn more about you as a sleep consultant, your client list is going to be slim.

If you don’t think you’d do the best job or you’re just not tech-savvy, see if you can hook up with someone who is. There are also plenty of companies you can hire to help you build a website. You don’t have to be fancy. You can start off with a basic site that lets people know who you are and how you can help them. As you grow your pediatric sleep consulting business, you can grow your website to include testimonials, blogs, and more. Continue to add value you can share and your client list will start growing.

You’re Not Talking About Your Business

While you don’t have to wear a shirt that says you’re a pediatric sleep consultant (although you could), you need to talk up your business. This is not bragging. It’s smart marketing, that’s guess what, also FREE!

So, talk to your family and friends about your new business and how you’re ready to help families. Don’t be shy about asking them to spread the word too. Sharing is caring!

While having people talk about your business is good stuff, word-of-mouth referrals are king, especially as you start working and people realize how awesome you are. They can share their positive experiences which can encourage others who are in the same boat to check you out too and also see how amazing you are.

You Skipped Out on Offering Anything Free

One of the best things you can do to market your baby sleep consulting business is to offer something free upfront. For example, hosting a webinar or a workshop at your local library brings people something of value. As you’re giving this, you’re getting the exposure you need as a new baby sleep consultant.

Don’t give it all away for free, just talk about sleep issues many families face and offer a couple of practical tips. If they like what you’re saying, let them know they can get even better tips if they sign on to work with you. Hand out business cards and whatever else you have that has your contact info on it and how you can help.

Whether you’re doing a webinar or an in-person workshop be sure to also share all of your social media info. This is a great way to get followers! You may also want to get emails to start a mailing list. Start a newsletter that not only sells your services but also provides more valuable information that people can get delivered right to their inbox. They don’t have to do anything except give you their email address. It doesn’t cost you a penny to send out an email. This is a marketing step that many people forget about when they become a baby sleep consultant.

Not Showing Off Client Results

Marketing mistakes don’t only happen to newbies. Even if you’ve gotten your business off to a good start and your marketing has been pretty solid, you may forget to show off your clients’ results.

Ask for testimonials from your satisfied clients and post them on your website and social media pages. Let people know how your consulting help has changed people’s lives and how it can change others. While you may be bragging a little, don’t you deserve to? You worked hard and you’ve helped people. That’s something to celebrate!
