The Best Sleep Consultant Job Opportunities
If you’re like most moms, you’re searching for a career that fits your life, not the other way around. Imagine working from home, setting your own hours, and making a real impact on other families — all while never missing your own baby’s milestones. Becoming a certified baby sleep consultant is that perfect opportunity that gives you that illusive work-life balance. Whether you’re looking to work part-time or build a full-time career, there are so many different paths you can go down after getting your certification. There are so many sleep consultant job opportunities out there—you just have to find one that fits into your lifestyle!
There is a Growing Demand for Sleep Consultants
I’ve been in this industry for years, and let me tell you—there is more work available now than I’ve ever seen before. Parents are starting to be more aware than ever before about just how much sleep matters. And, parents are also more likely to reach out for help—because there’s no shame in bringing in an expert. So there has been a rise in the demand for sleep consultants. And with of millions of babies being born each and every month, that demand will only continue to rise.
The parents that are looking for experts now-a-days aren’t looking for quick-fixes and short term solutions. Many of them are actually looking for ongoing support in developing those long-lasting sleep habits that we all need. Now is one of the best times to start a career in this industry, especially with the Internet connecting consultants and families worldwide.
Plus, sleep consultants have full flexibility over when and from where we work. Typically, you can charge between $350-$400 per consultation. So even part-time work with just a handful of clients can bring in a solid $4K each month. But many of our graduates who work full time or who have scaled their businesses are easily making over six figures each year. The work is available and plentiful—it’s up to YOU how many clients you want to take on, and how many hours you want to work.
Types of Job Opportunities Available for Sleep Consultants
One of the things I love about this industry is that you can tailor your work to your lifestyle. There are so many different paths you can take once you become certified with various levels of flexibility. Whether you want to work for yourself or find a steady position with a company, there’s an option for everyone.
Start Your Own Business (My Top Pick!)
I’ve found that this is not just the most common route sleep consultants choose, but I’ve found that it’s the option with the most freedom. Rather than joining a firm or company, you’re working directly with families that you find (or find you!). As your own boss, you get to decide how many clients you take on and when you work, which means that you can always prioritize family and personal time first.
Joining a Firm or Company
Though I don’t see too many of our graduates choose this option, it is still a great one for those who prefer a little bit more structure. Joining a firm means that you would be an employee or a contracted consultant—which can be nice if you’re not interested in starting up your own business. This also gives you more security with clients being provided for you, so you don’t have to go out of your way to market yourself.
Work for Our Graduates with Thriving Businesses
Many of our graduates go on to build successful sleep consulting practices, often with more clients than they can handle alone. In our private community, these busy consultants frequently post job opportunities for fellow graduates to join their teams. This arrangement is perfect if you want to dive into consulting without worrying about marketing, client acquisition, or running your own business. By joining an established practice, you can focus on doing what you love—helping families—while gaining experience and building your skills under the mentorship of someone who has already achieved success.
Partnering Up with Community
I see a lot of sleep consultants partnering up with parenting groups, doulas, or pediatricians, and it’s a great way to market yourself and bring in more word-of-mouth clients. While you’re still operating as a freelance consultant, you have more of a structure and community around you who work with the same target audience.
Which option fits your lifestyle best? If you’re a new mom looking to work from home and have more flexibility, go with freelancing. But if you’re looking for more structure, then joining a firm could work for you!
How to Find Sleep Consultant Job Opportunities
This is often the most intimidating part of the process, but finding clients isn’t as hard when you have community around you. Most of our graduates at the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting find clients or job opportunities before they even finish their certification!
- Job Boards and Online Platforms: Websites like LinkedIn and specialized job boards that focus on family care services are great places to go if you’re looking for openings as a sleep consultant. Especially if you’re looking to join a firm, that’s where you’ll find the job postings.
- Networking: IPSP grads are part of an exclusive Facebook group where job postings and client leads are shared all of the time. I’ve found that word-of-mouth and referrals like these are extremely helpful when looking for clients, because your network will do the marketing for you. To build that community you could also look at connecting with doulas, midwives, or pediatricians.
- The IPSP Advantage: As a certified IPSP grad, you’ll also have a listing on our website, which ranks high on Google searches. Lately, we’ve been seeing a huge increase in clients who are searching specifically for IPSP trained consultants. That means families know we are the creme-de-le-creme of sleep consultant training, and want a consultant who has taken out course! So getting clients as a IPSP grad is even easier.
Skills and Qualifications Needed to Land Sleep Consultant Jobs
The qualifications for sleep consultant job opportunities are straightforward—a reputable certification is #1. At IPSP, we offer the most comprehensive and respected certification programs available. Our graduates are trusted by families and professionals because of the in-depth training they received in our program.
- Certification: Clients and employers both want to work only with those certified. You’ll be working with tiny human beings, so you have to know what you’re doing. Our program is designed to give you all the tools you need, from understanding infant sleep cycled to mastering client communication.
- Experience and Testimonials: While some job postings or clients may ask for experience—don’t worry—our program includes hands-on training, and we’ll teach you how to gain clients and testimonials before you even graduate. By the time you’re certified, you’ll be ready to jump into real-world consulting.
The Job Opportunities go Beyond 1:1 Consulting
The thing about this field is that there are so many different places you can take your business. If you want to work 10-15 hours a week and spend the rest of the time with your own little ones, you can easily do that and make enough money. If you want to work full time just doing virtual 1:1 sessions, you can do that too (and make GREAT money!). Or you could decide to only offer 4 in-home consultations a month, working one day a week, and make even better money (our grads learn how to charge up to $4,000 per in-home consultation—yeah!).
We actually have a specific course in our program that shows you the step-by-step process to charge $4k per in-home consultation. During the session, we bring in an in-home expert who consistently charges this much (and more)—and she will show you how to do the same in her exclusive masterclass!
And you could even expand one day to teaching, to education, or you could expand your services into potty training, add a newborn sleep certification, or layer on top even more qualifications. There are just so many ways you can use your certification, depending on what you want the road ahead of you to look like.
Being a baby sleep consultant is all about charting your own path and having the flexibility to live a life you love. Whether you feel at home finding sleep consultant job opportunities with a company, or you feel at home… at home, working for yourself, it’s all about doing what feels right to you. But before any of that, you need to get certified! Enroll in our Sleep Consultant Program today and start getting that freedom for yourself!
