The Business of Baby Sleep Consultant Training
Let’s talk marketing, audience, and client acquisition… (Don’t worry – it’s all way easier than a grumpy baby at nap time!)
If you’re looking to get into the business of baby sleep consultant training – you already know it’s more than just the certifications.
In order to run a thriving business in this industry, you have to be both a sleep cycle expert AND a marketing maverick, understanding the ins and outs of your brand.
But before we dive in, don’t worry.
You DON’T need a business degree to get these concepts.
All it takes is familiarizing yourself with some of these strategies in order to set out on the right foot with your baby sleep consulting business.
Why the business-y side of baby sleep consultant training matters…
The journey into baby sleep consulting isn’t just about mastering the intricacies of infant sleep patterns or understanding the developmental stages of toddlers. It’s equally about navigating the business landscape – marketing your services, finding those elusive clients, and making your business something long-lasting and meaningful.
So, here are my 3 Top Tips to grow your business as a baby sleep consultant…
Tip #1: Understand your audience… and that they are tired.
Before diving into marketing techniques and acquiring clients, it is essential to really get to know who you’re talking to.
Parents seeking sleep services are so often overwhelmed, tired, and looking for someone to help in an effective and empathetic way.
So get to know these pain points and do a deep dive into how these struggles manifest in parents’ lives – and the other areas these hardships influence.
Ask yourself:
- How is the lack of sleep affecting this person’s time for their job?
- Is the lack of routine affecting the time they have for their family and friends?
- What about their personal time and mental health? Are those areas getting neglected due to their babies’ sleep schedule?
Your services should address these pain points directly. Share how you can solve these problems and give that family tangible benefits.
(BTW, we have an entire unit dedicated to marketing and building your business in our Sleep Consultant Certification Program!)
Tip #2: Your online presence as a baby sleep consultant matters.
In our overly-digital age, an online presence for a baby sleep consultant is non-negotiable. That means a well-designed website that outlines your services, shares testimonials from clients, and offers valuable links and resources that can be the foundation of your marketing.
It also means that you’re going to have to work on your social media output!
Content is king these days, so the more valuable and consistent your social posts are, the more likely your brand’s mission is going to get out there. Content also could be used in the form of blogs or guest posting on popular sites – just like this one!
Giving free but (more importantly!) valuable content online cements you and your brand as an authority on the topic of baby sleep training. With a bank of educational tips and tricks, testimonials from clients, and clear Calls-to-Action, those exhausted parents will trust that you are the person to help them get through this tough and sleepless time.
Tip #3: Actually getting clients as a baby sleep consultant…
It is the biggest question in ANY business: How do I actually get clients?
Unless you’re lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to be surrounded by friends with constantly wailing babies, this is the #1 question when you’re just starting your baby sleep training business.
While digital marketing can draw a lot of interest, converting that interest into clients with cash in hand requires a lot of work. Offering free initial consultations can be a great way to get in the door while giving potential clients a taste of your expertise and the peaceful nights you can bring them. Or, you can create tiered packages depending on the different needs clients might have – there’s never a one-size-fits-all solution in this industry, trust me.
When I first started my business, I found that testimonials and word-of-mouth referrals were GOLD. Seeing satisfied clients builds so much trust when a potential client is checking out your services.
So, ask for feedback and testimonials from people (especially for those free consultations at the beginning!), and share that on your website and all over your social. Plus, you can set up a referral-program that encourages happy clients to share your details with other sleep-deprived friends and colleagues.

Bonus Tip: Look towards the future of your baby sleep consulting business.
Successful consultants in our industry don’t just understand their market and plan out these business strategies – they develop genuine relationships with their clientele.
I got into this industry because I wanted to find a way to have a career I loved without sacrificing time with my own children. I genuinely wanted to help families that were struggling, and I’m proud to say I have been able to help hundreds of families get their lives back.
While it can be so difficult to start – don’t get caught up in the weeds. I highly recommend creating a plan of action to get your business off the ground.
Of course, you have to get your education and certifications squared away first before you can dive into the marketing side of it all.
