How to Make Extra Money as A Nurse

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know that my first (and much-loved!) profession was nursing. I loved being a nurse! But then I had my sweet baby girl. And I was faced with going back to work — and missing my little one’s milestones. My dilemma was how to make extra money as a nurse because leaving my baby every day to work a long shift was agonizing.-

Baby Sleep Consulting: a Dream Nursing Side Gig

how to make extra money as a nurseI chose what I discovered to be the best option, something that felt natural (and fun): Baby Sleep Consulting.

Simply put, I offered advice to new moms on how to get their baby to sleep through the night. As an RN, I utilized my knowledge of sleep cycles, child development, and what had worked for my own baby.

I had already been doing this for fun, engaging with moms on various baby forums like BabyCenter, Whattoexpect.com, and others. So, I decided to monetize my expertise and start a business!

For me, it became a side gig that earned me all the income I needed to stay home with my daughter.

In fact, as a baby sleep consultant I make three times my nursing salary. Yes, you read that right!

What is a Baby Sleep Consultant?

With the fast-paced and demanding nature of modern life, it’s no surprise that many parents are feeling the pressure to balance work and family life. This is why getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for both parent and baby.

However, the “cry it out” method can be distressing for some parents and babies, leading to a search for alternative solutions. That’s where baby sleep consultants come in – they offer a personalized approach tailored to the baby’s specific needs, helping them sleep through the night. By working with a sleep consultant, parents can not only ensure their baby gets the rest they need, but also feel more energized and focused to tackle the challenges of everyday life. This why sleep consultants are in such high demand in today’s modern society.

How do I Become a Certifed Sleep Consultant?

I was passionate about sleep consulting, so much so that I wanted to empower other women to have the same opportunity as me: to earn a substantial income, work from home, and not miss any of their little one’s milestones.

In 2014, I founded the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting (along with a team of professionals like myself, including RNs, LPNs, MDs, and IBCLCs). My mission is to provide you with evidence-based training AND business support to ensure your success as a pediatric sleep consultant.

My students told me they chose baby sleep consulting as:

  • a side hustle in addition to nursing
  • their own full-time gig that earned them more money than they’d dreamed
  • a part-time side hustle that allowed them to stay home with little ones
  • a flexible career that meshed seamlessly with their nursing skills
  • a career that nixed commuting for good

You have your own reasons for wanting to earn extra money as a nurse. They may be one or more of the above…or reasons of your very own. That’s what’s so great about infant sleep consulting. Nurses get the flexibility they want, and their dream career that earns the cash they need.
